Add Favicon to Site

A favicon, or tab icon, is a small icon that can be used to help solidify the branding of your SocialEngine Cloud community. By default, SocialEngine Cloud sites have a blue speech bubble as the favicon. The following paragraphs will walk you through uploading your image, obtaining the image URL, adding the favicon widget to your site and inserting the proper image url into the Favicon widget.

Add Image to Cloud Site

The first step in the process is to upload the desired image to the server using the media manager. For this example, we will be replacing the default favicon with an image of my cat, Han Solo.

  1. Navigate to the community’s admin panel
  2. Click “Media Manager” on the left-hand menu near the bottom
  3. Click the “Add Files” button. This will bring up a window in which you will be able to select the desired image. Once this is done, upload the image to the server
  4. Click the “Get URL” button next to the image
  5. Copy the URL provided

Add Widget Code to Header

  1. Navigate back to the community’s admin panel and click the “Page Templates” option
  2. Within your page templates, click the “Edit” button for your header.
  3. The fifth line of code will contain the following information:
    <script type="x-engine/func" data-func="favicon" data-favicon=""></script>
You will notice that the attribute data-favicon="" does not contain a URL
  4. Insert the previously copied image URL between the two quotation marks
  5. Click the “Save Changes” button in the lower left-hand corner

You have now successfully added a favicon to your site! When you head back to your main feed, you should see the tab icon next to your site’s name.

Note: If the image does not appear immediately, refresh the page.
