Managing Notification and Email Settings

Email Notifications are a great way for you to keep your members involved with your SocialEngine community and for you to keep up with new members. SocialEngine Cloud provides you with control over the types and frequency of notifications. This tutorial shows you how to manage notifications.

Where are Notification Settings?

Notification settings are found in your Admin Control Panel under Settings > Notifications. The tutorials below assume that you are in the “Notifications” section. Please be sure to “Save Changes” after changing settings.

How do I Change the Email “From” name?

To change the “From” name that your members see when they get emails from the site, enter the name in the input box for “From Name”.

How do I Change the “From Email Address”?

Your “From Email Address” can either be a real email, or perhaps a “noreply” email address. You can set this by entering the email you want to use in the input box for “From Email Address”.

How do I Enable or Disable Notifications for Admin?

The setting “Notify admins by email when” allows you to enable/disable email notifications for the following: “A new member signs up”, “A new post is awaiting approval”, and “Someone requests an invite”. Click the checkbox next to the setting you want to enable/disable.

How do I Enable or Disable Notifications for Members?

The setting “Notify members when” allows you to enable/disable email notifications when:

  • Someone follows them
  • Someone likes their post
  • Someone likes their comment
  • Someone comments on their post
  • Someone comments on a post someone commented on
  • Someone replies to their comment
  • Someone mentions them in a post or comment
  • Someone sends them a message

Click the checkbox next to the setting you want to enable/disable.

How do I Change “Digest Email” Settings?

Your “Digest Emails” can be enabled or changed by clicking the drop down selection for “Digest Emails”. The options are: “Never”, “Daily”, “Weekly”, “Monthly”. Note that sites with 500 or more members will not have the option for “Daily” emails.

How do I Enable Member Announcements?

If you want your members to be able to send email notifications with their posts, click the “Yes” checkbox for the “Allow Announcements” setting. This is not recommended for large communities.

How do I Allow Email Replies?

Email replies to emailed notifications is a “Beta” (in-testing) feature that can allow members to directly respond via their emails to a notification they’ve received. This works for notifications for posts, messages and comments. To enable this feature, click the “Yes” checkbox for the “Allow Email Replies” setting.
