How to Change and Require Terms of Service

Your Terms of Service (TOS) governs what members can do on your website and can help protect you from legal issues. As such, SocialEngine provides you a way to require new members to agree to your TOS and also to edit the default TOS to be customized for your site. It is recommended to seek legal advice for your TOS as every location can have different rules and regulations regarding internet legal terms. You can also find sample Terms of Service or Terms of Use by searching in popular search engines.

The below tutorials show you how to edit your TOS and how to require members agree to it when signing up for your site.

Changing Your Terms of Service

  1. When logged in to your Admin Control Panel, under “Settings” click “Members”. 
  2. Scroll down to the Terms of Service input box and add your Terms of Service. You can use HTML for formatting. 
  3. After you “Save Changes”, check front end and you can see your Terms of Service by clicking in the footer, “Privacy & Terms”.
  4. Below is the Terms of Service and Privacy page. At the top of the screenshot is the new Terms of Service added to the above setting.

Require Terms of Service on Sign Up

  1. When logged in to your Admin Control Panel, under “Settings” click “Members”. 
  2. Click the “Yes” checkbox next to the setting, “Require Agreement”. 
  3. “Save Changes” and then check front end for your sign up page and you should now see the agreement checkbox.
