Atlas Theme Instructions

The SocialEngine Atlas theme is a fully responsive theme packed with some really great features! This tutorial will walk you through everything Atlas has to offer.

If you haven’t installed Atlas yet, please see theme installation tutorial.

Before we get started and make any changes, we highly recommend that you use a clone of the theme in order to avoid editing the default theme. Those edits get overwritten on theme updates.

Visitor Home Page Banner Images

To edit the visitor home page banner, you’ll need to have a link or links to the image(s) you want to show. For this tutorial, we’ll use an image that we loaded via the File & Media Manager. This tutorial assumes you are already logged in to your Admin Panel.

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Theme Editor .
  2. At “Editing File” choose “banners.txt” .
  3. Paste the URL from the image you want to add.
  4. Click “Save Changes” to save the images.

You can repeat steps three and four to add more images.

Visitor Home Page Banner Text

To edit the visitor home page banner text, please follow these steps. This tutorial assumes you are already logged in to your Admin Panel.

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Theme Editor .
  2. At “Editing File” choose “splash.tpl” .
  3. Change the text between the <h2> tags how you want it.
  4. Click “Save Changes” to save the text.

Changing Home Page Layout with Widgets

If you would like to have widgets on your home page instead of the banner, here’s how to do that. You’ll need to edit a file and we suggest that you make a copy of the file before editing. A better option is to make a clone of Atlas and work on that instead. If working on a clone, instead of choosing the se-atlas folder, choose the one for your cloned theme instead.

Open application/themes/se-atlas/default.tpl

Around line 105, find:
<?php if ($currentModule == 'core' && $currentController == 'index') { ?>
                <?php require($pagesDir . '/index.php'); ?>
            <?php } else { ?>
                <?php echo $this->content; ?>
            <?php } ?>

Remove and replace with:
<?php echo $this->content; ?>

Editing CSS

Please follow these steps to edit the Atlas theme CSS which uses LESS or CSS.

Global CSS

  1. The global CSS is in LESS in the variable.less file.
  2. Navigate to Appearance > Theme Editor .
  3. At “Editing File” choose “variable.less” .
  4. Change the CSS how you want it.

  5. Click “Save Changes” to save the CSS changes.

General CSS

Other CSS edits can be done in the "custom.less" file.

  1. Navigate to Appearance > Theme Editor .
  2. At “Editing File” choose “custom.less” .
  3. Change the CSS how you want it.
  4. Click “Save Changes” to save the CSS changes.

Atlas was tested to work in the latest Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox browsers. Testing devices were Mac, Windows 10, iPhone 5 and iPhone 6.

Atlas Requirements

Atlas requires a minimum of PHP 5.3.2 in order for the LESS editing to show in Admin Panel.
